What it does

The connector returns primary legal sources: legislation, case law, and supervisory guidance from official portals. Every result carries the exact source URL to the original document at the publisher. The reference graph carries 26M+ relationships, with 32,000+ incoming references on the GDPR alone.

Moonlit Legal Research is one of two access modes within Moonlit Connect. The other is the Moonlit Data API, for embedding the Moonlit Data Layer into your own product.

Who uses it

Used every day at the Dutch Supreme Court (Hoge Raad), the Public Prosecutor (Openbaar Ministerie), the Dutch Central Bank (De Nederlandsche Bank), Deloitte, and KPMG. Saga runs production loads on the Data API.

Tools

Seven read-only tools, exposed to Claude. The model picks which tool to call; you ask the question.

  • keyword_search: exact words, phrases, or boolean expressions.
  • hybrid_search_reranked: natural-language question, keyword plus semantic, reranked.
  • reference_search: find documents that cite a given regulation or judgment.
  • get_filters: canonical lists for jurisdictions, portals, document types, fields of law, and sources.
  • retrieve_document: full text and metadata for a single document.
  • get_document_articles: article-level structure of a composite document.
  • convert_to_celex: directive or regulation number to canonical CELEX identifier.
